OLMSTEAD NOW PLEDGE:

The Supreme Court Olmstead decision mandates states to provide alternatives to skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) for the low-income frail/disabled who would prefer to live in alternative community based care settings. California continues to do nothing for tens of thousands of low income seniors with only custodial care needs who end up unnecessarily in SNFs each year.

I pledge to support California quickly implementing prudent, cost efficient Olmstead measures that will stop the low income frail/disabled from being forced unnecessarily into SNFs.

I pledge to support Olmstead measures that do not perpetuate institutional bias, restrict choice, needlessly waste state resources, deny aging in place nor eliminate from participation RCFEs with high staff to resident ratios.

I pledge to support Olmstead rights for low income SNF patients with custodial care needs who would like to use their medi-cal dollars to receive care at home or in community based care settings, such as Residential Care Facilities (RCFEs).

I pledge to support Olmstead rights for seniors currently in RCFEs, at risk of pre-mature institutionalization, who would like to age in place once they run out of money.

I pledge to support the Money Follows the Person (MFTP) (see below) plan adopted by the Olmstead Now Coalition which promotes maximum consumer choice and RCFE provider participation.
